7th grade Painting: This course introduces basic painting skills and concepts, and presents the painting process as a problem-solving exercise designed to promote fluency, flexibility, and elaboration. In addition, students will learn to think and write critically about master work as well as their own.
Introduction (1st 3 weeks) Make class folder, go over procedures, elements and principles, art room scavenger hunt, collaborative creatures, Tape Out Project
Project 1: Modeling Clay Color Wheel Students use red, blue and yellow modeling clay to mix all of the colors on the Color Wheel.
Project 2: Complementary Color Wheel Students use red, blue and yellow Paint to mix all of the colors on the Color Wheel. The complementary colors are represented by either pairs or opposites.
Project 3: Watercolor Color Theory Practices Students will participate in a series of 10 watercolor practices that teach color theory.
Project 4: Name Study (Analogous/Complementary) Students use the letters in their name and analogous and complementary color pairs to create simple color studies
Project 5: Circle Study (Shades/Tints) Students use different sizes of circles, shades and tints to create monochromatic symmetrical and asymmetrical studies.
Project 6: 5 x Media Students Use different materials to represent the same image.
Project 7: Figure and Proportion Scale (value and blending) Student practice using a wooden model to draw the human figure. They enlarge and decrease the proportions to practice scale. They use value and blending techniques to make the drawing have more dimension.
Project 8: Perspective Students practice drawing in one and two point perspective. They create a rendering of a city from above and use watercolor paint to add the finishing touches.
